During my 25+ year career, my research has increased awareness of common menopause symptoms and shown which treatments do and do not work to eliminate hot flashes. Much of this research was funded by the National Institutes of Health, Pfizer Foundation, Merck Research Laboratories, the Department of Defense, the Walther Cancer Institute, and the Oncology Nursing Foundation. I have shared my research findings in over 200 scientific publications that have been used and cited over 14,000 times by colleagues around the world.
Some awards I have received include the North American Menopause Society/Duramed Pharmaceuticals Inc Vasomotor Symptoms Research Award (2007), Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (2009), Midwest Nursing Research Society Distinguished Contribution to Research in the Midwest (2013), Council for the Advancement of Nursing Science Outstanding Nurse Scientist (2014), Sigma Theta Tau International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame (2016), Indiana Woman of Achievement (2017), USA Today Influential Indiana Women of the Century (2020), Expertscape.com World Expert in Menopause (2021), and recognition as being in the top 2% of all scientists worldwide (2023).
